AZERTY Coach
A free connector that lets Claude, ChatGPT or Codex tell you how to type a character on a French keyboard.
It needs no account and no sign-in, and it only reads data: it changes nothing on your side.
What it does
You ask your assistant a question as usual. When it is about a character or a keyboard layout, the assistant calls AZERTY Coach and answers with the keys to press.
Examples of questions:
- “How do I type a capital É on my keyboard?”
- “How do I write French quotation marks?”
- “I’m moving from a US keyboard to an AZERTY: which keys will change?”
- “Give me an exercise to learn AZERTY Global, then check what I typed.”
AZERTY Coach gives the assistant five tools:
- Find a character
- From the character, its name or a description (“o and e joined”), gives the keys to press, the recommended method and, when there is one, another method (an Alt code on Windows, a character to copy).
- Type a short text
- For each character beyond plain letters, says how to type it, and flags the ones that cannot be typed on the chosen layout.
- Compare two layouts
- Lists the keys that change between a starting layout and a target layout, from the most frequent to the rarest.
- Browse the lessons
- Gives the AZERTY Global lessons and exercises, to read or to do.
- Check an exercise
- Compares what you typed with the exercise and shows the differences character by character, including the ’ apostrophe, the non-breaking space and accented capitals.
Depending on the application, the answer may come with a visual keyboard that circles the keys to press. Without it, the answer stays text.
Setup
In all three cases you add the same server by its address, with no account and no key:
https://mcp.azerty.global/mcp
Menu names change with your plan and the version of the application: the steps below follow each publisher’s documentation.
In Claude
- Open Claude’s settings, in the connectors section.
- Choose “Add custom connector”.
- Name it “AZERTY Coach” and paste the address above.
- Confirm. No sign-in is requested.
On a Team or Enterprise plan, the organization owner adds the connector; members can then use it.
In ChatGPT
- In settings, in the connectors section, turn on developer mode (advanced settings).
- Create a connector, name it “AZERTY Coach” and paste the address above.
- Choose “No authentication”, confirm that you trust the connector, then create it.
- In a conversation, add AZERTY Coach from the tools menu.
Developer mode depends on your plan: in a Business, Enterprise or Education workspace, an administrator must allow it first.
In Codex
Add these lines to the ~/.codex/config.toml file, then restart Codex:
[mcp_servers.azerty-coach]
url = "https://mcp.azerty.global/mcp"
In the Codex app, you can also add it from the MCP server settings.
To remove it
Delete the connector in the same settings (or remove the two lines from config.toml).
Nothing is installed on your computer: there is nothing else to uninstall.
Limits
- Read-only. AZERTY Coach explains; it types nothing for you and acts on no software.
- Layouts covered. AZERTY Global, plus a few other layouts checked one by one. For a layout it does not have, it does not guess: it says so.
- Short texts. The tools take a character, a sentence or a small exercise, not a document.
- The assistant words its own answer. It rephrases what AZERTY Coach returns. If in doubt, try the key combination given.
- Availability. The service is free and comes with no availability commitment; see the terms of use.
Support
A mistake in an answer, a connector that will not add, a missing layout: write to contact@azerty.global. Messages in French or English are both fine.
So that we can reproduce the problem, tell us:
- the assistant you used (Claude, ChatGPT or Codex) and your system;
- the question you asked and the answer you got;
- the character or layout concerned.
Please do not send personal information: it is not needed. If your question is about your data, write to the same address and say so.
Privacy and terms
- AZERTY Coach privacy: what the server receives and what it keeps.
- Terms of use: what the service promises and what it does not.
AZERTY Coach is published by Antoine Olivier, in a personal capacity, separately from the association (AMCF) that publishes the website. For the layout itself, see AZERTY Global.
